High Availability for Windows

Experts at SteelEye have been delivering industry-proven solutions to enable fault-resilience for many years. The fault resiliency that is provided by LifeKeeper for Windows ensures maximum uptime for business critical applications. LifeKeeper is SteelEye's feature-rich clustering solution providing:

LifeKeeper for Windows Using Shared Storage

  • Automatic and manual failover/switchover, multi-directional failover, flexible active/active and active/standby configurations and seamless failover, where the clients are unaware of server or application failure.
  • Can be installed on heterogeneous server environments. LifeKeeper can operate on your existing hardware installation and with the current versions of your application, no special version or cluster aware version of your application is necessary.
  • Multiple fault detection methods and the industry's broadest range of tested and certified packaged application recovery kits for databases, applications, and network interfaces, including SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Exchange, and IIS.
  • Integration with enterprise management applications providing a unique monitoring capability that alerts system administrators so that proactive actions can be taken before failure occurs.
  • Thirty-two node failover clustering. It is easy to see the lower total cost of ownership -less equipment, less room required, less power, and fewer administrators needed.

Multi-Directional Recovery

Extreme Ease of Use
LifeKeeper includes a Java-based GUI that enables easy installation, operation and maintenance of clustered systems, applications and recovery policies. IT administrators can easily manage cluster-wide resources either locally or remotely via any Java-enabled Web browser.

Built-in GUI Wizards simplify and automate common management and operations tasks to further increase the efficiency of IT personnel and eliminate human errors.

Custom-Built Application Recovery Solutions
LifeKeeper offers the industry's broadest selection of custom developed Application Recovery Kits (ARKs), allowing businesses to immediately benefit from deploying their most popular applications on LifeKeeper. SteelEye tests, certifies, and supports the most popular Windows applications. SteelEye also provides a Software Development Kit (SDK) that allows companies to build their own recovery kits for their custom applications. LifeKeeper currently supports a broad range of applications, including SQL Server, Exchange, Microsoft IIS, IBM DB2 EE/EEE, and Oracle. For a complete list of applications supported by LifeKeeper for Windows, go to Supported Apps.

Shared Storage and Data Replication
LifeKeeper supports three different storage configurations, allowing LifeKeeper to seamlessly fit into existing eBusiness environments. The LifeKeeper for Windows platform can be configured with a shared storage model that utilizes the SCSI or Fibre channel technologies. LifeKeeper works with a wide variety of disk arrays and controllers to allow for maximum flexibility when choosing a hardware platform. SteelEye also offers a Data Replication product that provides a simple interface for configuring and maintaining volumes, which are mirrored between Windows Servers. SteelEye LifeKeeper Data Replication eliminates the need for an expensive shared RAID.

LifeKeeper High Availability Clustering configured with LifeKeeper Data Replication, together provide a number of key benefits, including the ability to locate the LifeKeeper servers anywhere on the LAN or WAN. Since there are no shared SCSI cables limiting distance, this opens up the possibility of using LifeKeeper for disaster recovery.
